Audio Conferencing

Fast and Efficient Audio Conferencing

Audio conferencing solutions allow you to set up a conference without having to require each participant to be physically present. It goes beyond a simple phone call; adding valuable features such as call recording, polling, security, and invitation management. In today’s economy, audio conferencing is especially vital, since it allows a company to keep travel costs to a minimum, while still allowing for collaboration to take place.

Hosted or On-Premises Audio Conferencing

Once you’ve established a need, then the first decision is whether to use hosted audio conferencing services, or to deploy the technology on-premises. Larger companies that already have their own PBX on site may already have audio conferencing features available through the PBX. This may reduce costs if the equipment is already in place, although it does require in-house staff to manage the call process. However, companies with older Centrex equipment or early PBX models may not have immediate access to audio conferencing features, and may need to either add special equipment, or upgrade to a newer model.

Hosted audio conferencing solutions on the other hand, are very well suited to smaller businesses, or to companies that have already gone the route of hosted PBX solutions. A hosted solution is usually available on either an ad-hoc or subscription basis, typically with very low or no up-front costs involved.

Features of Audio Conferencing

A wide variety of features are available, regardless of whether you use hosted audio conferencing solutions or an on-premises configuration. One advantage of the hosted model however, is that you may have access to a broader range of features, available on an a-la-carte basis. Hosted services may also offer a live operator. Although in many audio conferences this is not necessary, the live operator can be very useful in extremely large conferences, or in situations where a moderated question-and-answer session is planned as part of the session.

Common features of audio conferencing solutions include a mute feature, which helps to eliminate background noise from participants; as well as a variety of reports and summaries, call recording, and instant polling of all participants.
